Jewellery Care Guide

Every Ingenious piece is created using hand-picked highest quality precious and semi-precious minerals and metals.

We use latest and most advanced technology in jewellery plating to ensure your jewels stay lustrously beautiful in the years to come.

To help preserve the iridescence of your Ingenious jewellery please follow these simple guidelines.

  • Do not wear your jewellery while bathing, showering or swimming. Liquid, minerals and chemicals, like sulfur and chlorine, in combinations with high temperatures, can permanently damage the plating.
  • Do remove any rings, bracelets and hand-jewellery when washing or moisturizing your hands. Soaps, lotions and creams will react with plating, causing discoloration and tarnishing of the gold layer.
  • Do remove any jewellery when cleaning, as harsh household chemicals will deteriorate the plating.
  • Do remove any Ingenious jewellery before exercising. Chemicals produced by your body during excessive perspiration may cause tarnishing.
  • Do not wear any jewellery to bed, to avoid it tangling up and breaking.
  • Do not store your jewellery in the direct sunlight or exposed to heat. Excessive light, air and high temperatures may oxidize silver, causing it to tarnish. When not wearing, try to store all your jewellery in a specialized jewellery box or pouch.
  • Do store all your jewellery separate, to avoid scratching and tangling up.
  • Do ensure your jewellery is dry before putting it away. Moisture may speed up the tarnishing of both silver and gold plating.
  • Do ensure your skin is dry and any moisturizers, perfumes and make-up have been absorbed by your skin before putting the jewellery on. Avoid your jewellery coming into contact with hairspray. We advise you put your jewellery on last, making it that perfect final touch.

To clean sterling silver:

  • To brighten up your sterling silver pieces from the dust and dusk of a long day use soapy water and a soft polishing cloth.
  • Rinse and dry thoroughly before putting your jewels back in a jewellery box, as moisture and left over glycerin particles may cause tarnishing.
  • Only use specialist cleaning cloth to polish your sterling silver. Do not use paper-towels or tissues as, despite silver being slightly harder metal than gold, it may still scratch.

To clean rose and yellow gold plated jewellery:

  • To preserve the shine and glow of your gold-plated Ingenious pieces dust the jewellery with a soft damp cotton cloth.
  • Do not use any specialist silver cloths, as their surface would be too harsh for cleaning gold plating and may cause permanent damage.
  • Do not wash your gold-plated jewellery with water.
  • Do not use any chemical cleansers.
  • Dry thoroughly before putting your jewellery away, as moisture may affect the plating.
